Patents - the criticism

A new player on the field is an independent artist called M.I.T.D.

I couldn't find much background information, but he/she recently released "Reduxion" (on their album "Microcosm").

M.I.T.D publishes their music through DistroKid, alleging to be "the easiest way for musicians to get music into Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, Tidal, TikTok, YouTube, and more".

Be that as it may, Reduxion is an interesting piece combining electronic sounds with spoken language heavily criticizing the use of patent systems when related to genetics.

Here is an excerpt of the piece's lyrics (no copyright infringement intended as I consider this fair use), the lyrics actually representing a transcription of the words spoken:

When we ask the question who's life is it anyways, we aren't kidding The race to identify our genetic makeup was equaled only by the rush by the biotech Industry to patent this genes That's right Patent them Just like Thomas Edison's lightbulb Over a thousand human genes have already and thousands more are pending Which means that chances are Your genetic structure and mine Our most private property Could well belong to someone else Doctors are scanning the globe looking at patients as potential treasure troves because They can use your blood to find a very lucrative gene

The full transcript (lyrics) can be found here.

And of course, a WordCloud brings additional insights in the use of our favorite IP terms as well.
